James McGrew
James McGrew’s childhood backpacking and camping trips sparked his loves for the Sierra Nevada, nature and art. He began painting with oils at age 10 and later earned degrees in natural sciences. Inspired by 19th-century romantics, McGrew works to continue their legacy of preservation for future generations. He often hikes and backpacks for his frequent plein air painting. James’s paintings hang in prominent collections worldwide and received many awards including Best of Show in the Grand Canyon and Maui Invitationals. His work has been featured in many magazine articles, films and books. James also worked as a park ranger/naturalist for over 25 summers. He is an artist member of the CAC and a signature member of AIS.
