Project Description

Mason Williams

Harley Brown was raised in the Canadian town of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He went to the Alberta College of Fine Art and began to draw and paint the Old West. He also played the honky-tonk piano in an eccentric Calgary nightclub. 85 years of age, Mr. Harley Brown is a living legend, a Canadian Artistic Icon who is loved and adhered to within the art world and beyond, Internationally. Harley read that “London is for the eccentrics” in the newspaper. That was all this struggling artist needed to know, so along with his wife and young son, they moved to England where he studied for 2 years at the esteemed Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts at the University of Arts London, before moving back to Calgary.

He received his BA in Studio Art from Principia College in 2017. After graduating, Williams took a job back home as studio manager at Carmel Visual Arts. During this time, he began mentorships with renowned Carmel artists Jesse Powell, John Burton, and Brian Blood. It was under their tutelage that Williams discovered his love for the landscape and plein air painting. In 2022, Williams graduated from the Laguna College of Art and Design with his Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting. He was featured in the Southwest Art Magazine’s article 21 Under 31, Young Artists to Collect Now, and more recently featured in an article American Art Collector Magazine.
