Andy Evansen

Join Andy Evansen for a pre-convention watercolor workshop focused on what makes his paintings so fresh: capturing the landscape with an economy of brushstrokes and the natural glow of watercolor done in just a few washes.
Andy will show you how to simplify a busy scene into big, clear shapes, plan your values before you start, and get the most out of every wash so your paintings stay loose and luminous instead of overworked. Through live demos and practical tips from decades of painting on location around the world, you’ll learn how to find the hidden beauty in everyday scenes, and you’ll head into PACE ready to paint with more confidence outdoors.

Andy Evansen’s love of art started in childhood, and he began painting watercolors in the mid 1990s as a change of pace from his career as a medical illustrator. Inspired by British watercolorists like Trevor Chamberlain, Edward Seago and Edward Wesson, he set out to capture the landscape with the same economy of brushstroke and luminous, simple washes.
His work gained recognition after he won an international watercolor competition through American Artist magazine, and he has since become a sought-after instructor who paints and teaches around the world. Andy is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society and the Plein Air Painters of America, where he served as President from 2015 to 2017. His awards include the Bronze and High Winds Medals from the American Watercolor Society, and he was a featured presenter at the 2014 and 2016 Plein Air Conventions.
