Project Description

Buffalo Kaplinski

Buffalo Kaplinski studied with famed watercolor master, Irving Shapiro (AWS) at the American Academy of Art in Chicago before wanderlust brought him to the American Southwest. Known for his plein air work, Kaplinski has traveled the world, painting extensively in Europe, South America and the Middle East. Kaplinski has established an intimate relationship with the unique lighting and landscapes of Arizona, Colorado and Utah. Buffalo won the 2013 Superintendent’s Award of Excellence and was the poster artist for Zion National Park, received the 2018 Award of Excellence in the Colorado Plein Air Artist Fine Art Exhibition, participated in the 2019 Zion Centennial Invitational Exhibition with his work on view in the permanent collection of the Zion Forever Project. Follow Buffalo’s fifty years of painting in the book, “Passionate Landscapes: The Painting Journeys of Buffalo Kaplinski” by Harmon Graves. “Being able to live and paint in Colorado is a great blessing,” Buffalo says, “THE LORD put me here.”
